The Winchester VFW will have a parade at 1pm on Saturday, August 4th. The parade will line up on 7th street, and proceed to Delaware (K192), then east to 3rd street going by the post office, turning at Winchester Street and going by the high school to the American Legion Park. The VFW will dedicate a historic sign for the park and refreshments at the high school will follow. More information is available on Facebook. The Fire Department will provide traffic control.
In honor of the Davis-Gibson Legion Post #387 of Winchester celebrating 70 years of service, there will be a parade through the city of Winchester on Saturday!
Also during these events will be a sign dedication for the Military and Freight Road from Fort Leavenworth to Fort Riley in 1854 at 1:30pm on the Legion Lot south of the ball fields.
Following the sign dedication, from 2 – 4:00 pm there will be a Reception with Refreshments in the High School Commons Area.
There will be a military band and color guard leading the parade, while the last surviving of the original members who started Post #387 70 years ago, Jerry Pemberton, will be honored as Grand Marshal.
